The Best Budget-Friendly Summer Wines featuring @GrochauCellars

Serious Eats has a great list of the wines to drink this summer that includes Grochau Cellars Commuter Cuvée Pinot Noir. "Sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards around Oregon's Willamette Valley, the wine is juicy and packed with cherry flavor that's cut with tangy acidity. It's like the ketchup for your burger." Yum!

Wine of the Week - Assolati Sangiovese!

This organically-made Sangiovese from the small, mountainous region of Montecucco in Tuscany has notes of strawberry and cherry balanced by fine tannin and is an ideal pairing for the classic Florentine steak.

Montecucco was featured in Somm Journal earlier this year, with David Ransom saying, "... most of Montecucco’s producers are making small amounts of wine and maintain small vineyards, of which approximately 70% are organically farmed."

Wine of the Week - Montaribaldi Roero Arneis!

Summer is officially here, with the temperatures to match. Cool off with Montaribaldi's "Capural" Roero Arneis! This Piedmontese white comes from the local Arneis grape, an ancient variety that produces highly aromatic, full-bodied wine.

Notes of chamomile meld with pear, white flower, and a touch of almond. Perfectly matches with antipasti, such as crostini with goat cheese and poached pear, or a light pasta dish.

#DrinkChenin Day!

Versatile and delicious, Chenin Blanc is one of our favorite grapes! Some of our favorites come from Ludovic Chanson out of Montlouis. Few producers sum up the quiet innovation and imagination encapsulated in the Montlouis sur Loire AOC as well as the young Ludovic Chanson, who is currently crafting gorgeous, interesting, and delicious renderings of his white wines.

We also carry Chenin Blancs from:

~ Wine - or Cider - of the Week - Frédérick Goussin ~

Just in time for warmer weather, our Cider of the Week is the "Heritage 1900" from Frédérick Goussin. Located in the Pays d’Othe, an expansive forest that sits between the Aube River in Champagne and the Yonne River in Burgundy, Frédérick Goussin and his son-in-law Olivier Euillot are crafting all natural cider from an organic orchard of apple trees that are well over 100 years old.

This is and has always been an orchard untouched by chemicals of any kind. Goussin makes his cider from thirteen different varietals of apple that reflect the deeply traditional nature of this cider. In keeping with the classical style of the ciderie, the ciders are made by méthode ancestrale and all bottles are disgorged by hand. The resulting cider is refined and delicate and provides an excellent alternative to beer or wine.

~ Wine of the Week - Marrans Fleurie ~

Today's wine of the week comes from Domaine des Marrans in Beaujolais. Their Fleurie is one of 10 cru Beaujolias and is renowned for its vivacious wines that have a distinctive floral perfume.

Julia Harding, writing for JancisRobinson.com, rates the 2014 vintage "Good Value," saying:
"Bright lightish crimson. There’s a definite mineral quality here, as if you can taste the granite. There’s tangy dark-red fruit and very fine tannins. This is more savoury and dry than many a Fleurie, rather a serious side to an often flirtatious wine."

Introducing Jean-Charles Fagot!

We are pleased to announce our newest producer - Jean-Charles Fagot out of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy.

The Fagot family has been located in the small village of Corpeau since 1860. Just outside Chassagne-Montrachet, it is located near some of the most prestigious vineyards in the Cote de Beaune, so it would be fair to say that wine is in the family’s blood. Jean-Charles is part of the 5th generation of Fagots in the area and the third generation to own vineyard acreage in Chassagne-Montrachet.
