Recipe Thursday: Cozy Up with Winter Fare and Hearty Reds

Whether blanketed in snow or just a chill in the air, winter is just around the corner. Cozy holiday gatherings are in full swing and the fireplace is beckoning with warmth and ambience.  Regardless of the temperature outside, this is the time of year we crave hearty winter fare and full-bodied, bold reds.

To really warm the bones, nothing can beat a tender, beefy plate of short ribs. Epicurious’ Five-Spice Short Ribs with Carrot-Parsnip Purée incorporates Chinese five-spice powder, which brings a warm, spicy-sweet essence to the short ribs. Now all we need is a wine with body and structure to stand up to the rich flavors, but also something fruit forward and aromatic to bring out the toasty caramelization of the meat and vegetables. Clesi’s Cabernet Sauvignon, with its robust fruit, warmth and spice, is the perfect wine to match.
