Wine of the Week: Diwald Zweigelt Rosé

Rosé season is heating up, and what better way to celebrate than to highlight one of our most delicious and unique rosé. The Diwald rosé is made from 100% Zweigelt. This varietal is most known for being Austria's most widely panted red grape. A lighter wine, similar to a Grenache or Gamay with deep fruity notes such as black cherry and raspberry; the Zweigelt rosé brings something new to the table. The Diwald rosé is very dry, with bright strawberry and raspberry notes, and a savory herbal core; and its bright and vivacious acidity could be interpreted as a slight effervescence. This rosé is perfect at your next alfresco dinner with olives and salumi.

Paula and Hans Diwald pioneered their winery’s conversion to completely organic viticulture during a time when chemicals and additives were prominent in winemaking. In 1980, the Diwalds converted their 4 hectare farm into a vineyard. After some trial and error with chemical fertilizers, the two made the decision to farm organically in order to improve the quality of their fruit. Today Martin Diwald leads the second generation of the family’s commitment to producing authentic wine that re ects Wagram’s environment, resources, and land.
